Our First Month at Fantastic Fibres

It’s hard to believe that Fantastic Fibres has now been making it’s way into classrooms for a full month.

What began as an idea for a hands-on way to help children explore natural fibres has now reached multiple schools in 19 counties across Ireland, including 5 Island schools. Seeing the boxes travel far and wide across the country has been such a lovely milestone for us, and a very exciting start to the Fantastic Fibres journey.

Over the past couple of weeks, teachers have been opening boxes filled with wool, flax, hemp, ramie and more, ready for children to touch, investigate, compare, experiment with and create from. We’d love schools to keep us updated. Whether it’s a photo of a fibre experiment, a piece of artwork or a favourite activity with the fibres, we’d really enjoy hearing how children are responding to the materials.

This first month has really been about getting Fantastic Fibres out into the world and into the hands of teachers and children. We’re incredibly grateful to every school that has welcomed one of our boxes into their classroom and to everyone in the natural fibre community who has supported us along the way.

In the coming months, we’ll also be sharing more ideas for getting even more from the Sensory Box, including seasonal crafts and activities that use the fibres in different ways. With Halloween fast approaching, there may already be a few spooky fibre ideas on the way!
